Julia is an ensemble member of the Theater Gera-Altenburg since season 2023/24. In 2024/25 Julia is looking forward to debuting to four further roles, such as Adele in Die wahre Fledermaus von Johann Strauss, Primadonna Assoluta in Die Riemannoper, Arsinoe in Die toten Augen and Dolly Fleuriot in Meine Schwester und ich and she is excited to sing Gretel, Eliza Doolittle and Prinzessin Adelheid in Redoute in Reuß again.
In 2024, she also returned to the DNT Weimar for the prizewinning production of Ariadne auf Naxos as Zerbinetta and Najade.
As a member of the Thuringian Opera Studio in the seasons 21/22 and 22/23, Julia debuted in many different roles, such as Zerbinetta, Najade in Ariadne auf Naxos and Livia in Caligula at DNT Weimar, Yvette in Die Passagierin, and Hannchen in Der Vetter aus Dingsda at Theater Gera-Altenburg, Valencienne in Die Lustige Witwe, Serpina in La Serva Padrona, Gianetta in L’elisir d’amore, Maria Bellacanta in Hexe Hillary, Lieschen in Die Zwillingsbrüder, and Stewardess in The Addams Family at Theater Nordhausen, and Schleppträgerin in Elektra at Theater Erfurt.
In 2016, the young soprano gave her stage debut at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar as Anna in the Musical Spring Awakening, and appeared at the theater again in 2019 as Velma in Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story. She was also an ensemble member of the Rocky Horror Show at the Alte Oper Erfurt from 2018 to 2021, and made her debut as Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel with the Jenaer Philharmonie at the Volkshaus Jena in 2022.
Julia was a finalist in the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang Berlin 2022 and semi-finalist in the Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition 2021. She can be heard on several CD and radio recordings, amongst others a recording of J. Fr. Agricola’s Achille in Sciro as Deidamia with the Philharmonisches Orchester Gera and Anton Schweitzer’s Missa Brevis (entirely in solo arrangement) with the Thüringer Bach Collegium.
Julia Gromball completed her Bachelor (2019) and Master (2023) with High Distinction at the Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT Weimar and continues her vocal studies with Prof. Hans-Joachim Beyer. She has also greatly benefitted from masterclasses with KS Brigitte Fassbaender, Sir Thomas Allen & Joseph Middleton, KS Dorothea Röschmann, KS Angelika Kirchschlager, and Bo Skovhus.
