
Julia Gromball has been an ensemble member at Theater Gera-Altenburg since the 2023/24 season. In 2025/26, she made successful role debuts as Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor, Fiakermilli in Arabella and Wagemut in Der Weg des Orpheus. She also reprised her portrayals of Eliza Doolittle, Arsinoe in Die toten Augen, and Dolly Fleuriot in Meine Schwester und ich. Additionally, she returned for a second season as the Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte at the Landestheater Detmold.
Looking ahead to 2026/27, she will make role debuts as Violetta Valéry in La traviata, Nedda in Pagliacci, and Graziella in Joseph Süß by Detlev Glanert.
As a member of the Thuringian Opera Studio from 2021 to 2023, Julia performed numerous role debuts, including Zerbinetta and Najade in Ariadne auf Naxos, and Livia in Caligula at the DNT Weimar; Yvette in Die Passagierin and Hannchen in Der Vetter aus Dingsda at Theater Gera-Altenburg; Valencienne in Die lustige Witwe, Serpina in La serva padrona, Gianetta in L’elisir d’amore, Maria Bellacanta in Hexe Hillary, Lieschen in Die Zwillingsbrüder, and the Stewardess in The Addams Family at Theater Nordhausen; as well as the Schleppträgerin in Elektra at Theater Erfurt.
In 2024, she returned to the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar for the acclaimed production of Ariadne auf Naxos, performing the roles of Zerbinetta and Najade.
Julia made her stage debut in 2016 at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar as Anna in the musical Spring Awakening, and returned in 2019 as Velma in Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story. From 2018 to 2021, she was a member of The Rocky Horror Show at the Alte Oper Erfurt, and in 2022 she made her debut as Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel with the Jenaer Philharmonie at the Volkshaus Jena.
She was a finalist in the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang Berlin in 2022 and a semi-finalist in the Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in 2021. Julia can be heard on various CD and radio recordings, including J. Fr. Agricola’s Achille in Sciro (as Deidamia) with the Philharmonisches Orchester Gera, and Anton Schweitzer’s Missa Brevis (arranged for solo voice) with the Thüringer Bach Collegium.
Julia Gromball earned both her Bachelor’s (2019) and Master’s (2023) degrees with high distinction from the Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT Weimar, and continues her vocal studies with Hans-Joachim Beyer. She has further refined her artistry in masterclasses with Brigitte Fassbaender, Thomas Allen & Joseph Middleton, Dorothea Röschmann, Angelika Kirchschlager, and Bo Skovhus.
