Claire de Monteil is quickly gaining recognition around the world as an important soprano on the rise. She started her season 2024-25 at the Mainfranken Theater in Würzburg, performing the title role of Cherubini’s Medea. With the same role, but in the French version, she made her Italian debut in 2024 at Teatro alla Scala di Milano, jumping in for Marina Rebeka for four performances. Upcoming engagements include the role of Senta in Der fliegende Holländer at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste and Inès in Il Trovatore alongside Anna Netrebko at the Chorégies d’Orange. Last season, she appeared as Leonora in Verdi’s Il Trovatore at both the Teatro Goldoni in Livorno and the Teatro del Giglio in Lucca.
In the 2022/23 season, Claire covered the role of Fiora in L’Amore dei Tre Re at Teatro alla Scala di Milano. She performed with an ensemble of soloists from the Paris Opera House Orchestra at the Amphitheater of the Opéra Bastille, as well as making her debut in the iconic Salle Gaveau in Paris with the Alliance Orchestra.
In addition to her stage work, Claire is equally at home on the concert platform: In her native France, she has performed Mozart’s Requiem with the Toulon Opera House, appeared with Bartabas Productions at the National Scene of Châteauvallon and was the soprano soloist in Beethoven‘s Mass in C major under the baton of Michel Piquemal at the Abbaye aux Dames de Saintes.
Claire’s previous operatic performances include the title roles in Suor Angelica and Ariadne auf Naxos, Leonora in Il Trovatore, Fiordiligi in Così Fan Tutte, the Foreign Princess in Dvorak’s Rusalka and the First Lady in The Magic Flute at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia (USA) under the baton of Christopher Macatsoris. She made her European debut as Simone in the French Opéra-Comique Les Mousquetaires au Couvent by Louis Varney at the Grand Opéra d‘Avignon in France conducted by Dominique Trottein.
She has gone on to win many prestigious awards, including the 2nd prize of the Renata Tebaldi Competition in San Marino in 2022, the Metropolitan Opera National Council Semifinals in New York in 2020, 3rd Prize of the Loren L. Zachary Society for the Performing Arts Competition 2019 in Los Angeles. She was a semifinalist of the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in 2018 and 2019 and finalist of the Concorso Internazionale Voci Verdiane in Busseto in 2024. Other awards include a Grant from the Gerda Lissner Opera Competition in New York, first Prizes in France’s Opera en Arles Competition and Opera Jeunes Espoirs Raymond Duffaut Competition in Avignon, first Prize in the Giargiari Bel Canto Competition in Philadelphia and Australia’s prestigious Elizabeth Connell Prize.
A Paris native, she trained at the Haute Ecole de Musique in Geneva in the class of Maria Diaconu (2011-2016) and at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia in the class of Bill Schuman (2016-2020).
