Considered one of the finest countertenors of his generation, Gabriel Díaz has performed under renowned conductors such as Jordi Savall, Ivor Bolton, Ruben Jais, Lionel Meunier, Andrea Marcon, Jana Semerádová, Leonardo García Alarcón, and Andreas Spering. His upcoming projects for the 2025/26 season include the presentation of a Puzzi CD in Lisbon with Ensemble Bonne Corde, directed by Diana Vinagre; a recital of Italian cantatas at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City with harpsichordist Raúl Moncada; and a concert tour featuring Zelenka’s Missa Circumcisionis and G.F. Händel’s Dixit Dominus with Collegium 1704 under Václav Luks, performing in Prague, Dresden, Katowice, and Versailles. He will also make his debut at Theater an der Wien as Alidoro in Cesti’s L’Orontea, conducted by Wolfgang Katschner, and appear in a concert performance of Charpentier’s Les Arts Florissants in Seville with La Ritirata, under Josetxu Obregón.

Last season, Gabriel toured Switzerland, Belgium, and Germany with La Cetra Barockorchester Basel, conducted by Andrea Marcon; performed Handel’s Messiah with the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada; and made his debut at the Festival Potsdam Sanssouci as Galafro in Steffani’s Orlando Generoso, conducted by Dorothee Oberlinger. His debut CD, featuring a selection of Handel’s cantatas, was released in the summer of 2025.

Recent engagements include the title roles in Corselli’s Achille in Sciro and Handel’s Orlando at Teatro Real de Madrid under Ivor Bolton. Gabriel also appeared in a staged production of Bach’s St. John Passion directed by choreographer Peter Leung, and sang Giovanni in the modern premiere of Schiassi’s Maria Vergine al Calvario in Lisbon with Fernando Miguel Jalôto. He debuted at Warsaw’s Teatr Królewski as Ircano in Vinci’s Semiramide riconosciuta under Marco Vitale.

Previous highlights include Andronico in Handel’s Tamerlano with Les Ambassadeurs and Alexis Kossenko at the Poznań Opera House, Galatea in Aci, Galatea e Polifemo with Andreas Spering in Seville, Medoro in Mariani’s La Lisarda with Rogério Gonçalves at Donaufestwochen, La Peinture in Charpentier’s Les Arts Florissants in Bilbao with Josetxu Obregón, and Pastore in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo at Paris’s Opéra Comique under Jordi Savall.

Gabriel’s repertoire also embraces contemporary music. He has performed El Comisario in El Abrecartas by Luis de Pablo and El Sapo in La Regenta by Marisa Manchado—both at Teatro Real in Madrid. Other highlights include Until the Lions with music by Vincenzo Lamagna (Akram Khan Company), Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and Pärt’s Johannes-Passion with Sociedad Musical de Sevilla, Bernstein’s Missa Brevis with the Spanish National Choir, and Erkoreka’s Three Sonnets to Michelangelo with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia.

Gabriel has taken part in many recordings for Almaviva, Alia Vox, Enchiriadis, Arsis, NB Musica, Ricercar, Lauda Musica and Alpha, some of them winners of awards such as the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, Critics’ Choice Gramophone, 5 Diapason, Diapason d’Or and FestClásica.
