Mexican-Spanish tenor Abraham Breton is steadily building a notable career in opera. This season, he will debut as Duca di Mantova in Verdi’s Rigoletto at Oper Frankfurt, as well as performing Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore at Staatstheater Darmstadt and Don José in Carmen at Opera Australia in Sydney. During his time as a member of the Oper Frankfurt Opera Studio (2022/2023 and 2023/2024), he has appeared in various supporting roles, with his portrayal of Don José receiving positive reviews.
Abraham has taken on a diverse repertoire throughout his career, including roles such as Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore, Alfredo in La Traviata, Roméo in Roméo et Juliette, Riccardo in Un ballo in maschera, Manrico in Il trovatore, Duca di Mantova in Rigoletto, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Rodolfo in La bohème, Roberto in Puccini’s Le Villi, and Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor. He has also performed at Carnegie Hall, where he appeared as a soloist in Verdi’s Messa da Requiem and is set to return in 2024 for Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
His training includes participation in programs at various respected institutions worldwide, such as the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS) in Austria, the Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Program in New Mexico, the Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA) in Philadelphia, Artescénica in Mexico, the International Society of Mexican Art Values (SIVAM), Oberlin in Italy, the National School of Music (UNAM), and the Higher Institute of Music of the State of Veracruz (ISMEV). Abraham has received several honors, including the Plácido Domingo Scholarship and the ArteMusica-Stiftung Scholarship. He won the Philadelphia District of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2020 and was a finalist in the International Belvedere Singing Competition in 2019.
