The French soprano Claire de Monteil opened her 2024–25 season at the Mainfranken Theater in Würzburg in the title role of Cherubini’s Medea. In the same role, in the French version, she made her Italian debut at Teatro alla Scala in Milan in 2024, stepping in for Marina Rebeka for four performances. Further highlights of the season included Senta in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer at both Teatro Verdi in Trieste and Landestheater Coburg, as well as Inès in Verdi’s Il Trovatore alongside Anna Netrebko at the renowned Chorégies d’Orange. She also appeared as soprano soloist in Dvořák’s Stabat Mater and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 at Salle Gaveau in Paris.

More recently, Claire covers the role of Athena in Medea, with music by Iain Bell and directed by Lydia Steier, at La Monnaie / De Munt. Looking ahead, the 2026–27 season will see her appear as Mary in Zombie, a new opera by Andrea Battistoni, at the Opéra Royal de Liège.

In the previous season, Claire sang the role of Leonora in Verdi’s Il Trovatore at both Teatro Goldoni in Livorno and Teatro del Giglio in Lucca. In the 2022–23 season, she covered the role of Fiora in Montemezzi’s L’Amore dei Tre Re at Teatro alla Scala di Milano.

In addition to her stage work, Claire is equally at home on the concert platform. In her native France, she has performed Mozart’s Requiem with the Toulon Opera House, appeared with Bartabas Productions at the National Scene of Châteauvallon, and sung as soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Mass in C major under the baton of Michel Piquemal at the Abbaye aux Dames de Saintes.

Her previous operatic performances include the title roles in Puccini’s Suor Angelica and Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos, Leonora in Il Trovatore, Fiordiligi in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, the Foreign Princess in Dvořák’s Rusalka, and the First Lady in Mozart’s The Magic Flute at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia under the baton of Christopher Macatsoris. She made her European debut as Simone in Louis Varney’s French opéra-comique Les Mousquetaires au Couvent at the Grand Opéra d’Avignon, conducted by Dominique Trottein.

Claire has received numerous prestigious awards, including Second Prize at the 2022 Renata Tebaldi International Competition in San Marino, the Metropolitan Opera National Council Semifinals in New York in 2020, and Third Prize at the Loren L. Zachary Society for the Performing Arts Competition in Los Angeles in 2019. She was a semifinalist in the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in 2018 and 2019 and a finalist in the Concorso Internazionale Voci Verdiane in Busseto in 2024. Other distinctions include a grant from the Gerda Lissner Opera Competition in New York, First Prizes at the Opéra en Arles Competition and the Opéra Jeunes Espoirs Raymond Duffaut Competition in Avignon, First Prize at the Giargiari Bel Canto Competition in Philadelphia, and Australia’s prestigious Elizabeth Connell Prize.

A native of Paris, Claire trained at the Haute École de Musique in Geneva in the class of Maria Diaconu from 2011 to 2016, before continuing her studies at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia with Bill Schuman from 2016 to 2020.
