
In the 2026/27 season soprano Idil Kutay will appear as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Seraphische Stimme in Das Wunder der Heliane, Musetta in La bohème, and Nedda in a new production of Pagliacci at the Aalto Music Theater in Essen. As part of the her:voice – Festival of Women Composers, she will also perform in the staged project Susanna, Judith and the ugly bastards, featuring music by Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre. Her concert engagements include the soprano solo in Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem at the Grote Kerk in The Hague, as well as performances of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, the Philharmonischer Ball, and Mendelssohn’s Elias with the Essener Philharmoniker.
Idil joined the ensemble of the Aalto Music Theater Essen in 2025/26. During her first season she made her debut as Liù in Turandot and appeared as Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel, the Third Woman in Die Fritjof-Saga by Elfrida Andrée, Knappe and Blumenmädchen in Parsifal, and Helen, Queen in the world premiere of Die verzauberte Stadt by Samuel Penderbayne. In addition, she performed the soprano solo in Beethoven’s Egmont as part of a philharmonic concert.
Idil was a member of the Opera Studio at Oper Frankfurt from 2023 to 2025. During this time, she appeared as the High Priestess in Verdi’s Aida, La Vierge in Honegger’s Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher, and made her debut as Gretel in the children’s production of Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel. She also performed the roles of Erster Knappe and Zweites Blumenmädchen in a new production of Parsifal, and portrayed Barbarina in Tilmann Köhler’s staging of Le nozze di Figaro, conducted by Thomas Guggeis. Other roles she took on at Oper Frankfurt included Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, the First Leprechaun in Wolfgang Fortner’s Don Perlimplín’s Love for Belisa in His Garden, and the Fifth Maid in Elektra.
At the Bregenz Festival in 2024, Idil took on the roles of Fannì in Rossini’s La cambiale di matrimonio and Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi in a new double-bill production under the direction of KS Brigitte Fassbaender.
Idil was featured in a celebratory concert highlighting Mozart operas, including scenes from Don Giovanni, where she took on the role of Donna Anna with the Residentie Orkest under the baton of Felix Bender. Additionally, on the concert stage, she performed as the soprano soloist in Rossini’s Petite Messe solennelle and Cimarosa’s Requiem.
She won second prize in the 2019 International Singing Competition Alīda Vāne in Latvia and was a finalist in the 2022 International Singing Competition Neue Stimmen in Gütersloh, Germany.
Idil holds a Master of Music in Opera from the Dutch National Opera Academy, where she performed diverse roles such as Cornelia in Graun’s Cleopatra e Cesare, Rosalinde in J. Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Cendrillon in P. Viardot’s Cendrillon, and Beth March in M. Adamo’s Little Women.
Concluding her academic journey with distinction, she earned the Scholarship of Excellence from the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague upon completing her Bachelor’s degree. Additionally, she was recognized as one of the fifteen talented musicians awarded the Dr. Nejat Eczacibasi Foundation Music Scholarship.
